"Thousands of women (probably a police estimate) attended a massive Asifa in Lakewood’s Bais Faiga Hall (it wouldn't be tznius to have it in Beis Shalom) on Sunday night, to strengthen Tznius in the Ir Hatorah of Lakewood"
YWN posted links to clips of all four speeches. The speakers included Rav Shmuel Kamenetzky, Rav Mattisyahu Solomon, Rebbitzen Halberstat, and Rebbitzen Rischel Kotler.
Someone had a problem:
Some may argue that the posting of the esteemed Rebetzen’s speeches on the internet is itself a breach of tznius

Lakewood Woman Shot in Head With Flare Gun
This post is from an article about a woman in Lakewood who was shot by a flare gun. (She was treated and later released from Kimball Medical Center with minor injuries).
I live right there “Very scary”
Comment by coffee room — July 28, 2008 @ 3:11 pm
Is it "Very scary" or is it actually very scary? Maybe it's VERY scary or "Very" scary but not too scary. WHAT IS HE TRYING TO TELL US??????????? I cant figure it out.
Orthodox Jewish Leaders To Visit Iowa Meat Plant
From an article about the National Council of Young Israel , which is coordinating and leading a mission of several Jewish community and rabbinic leaders to the Agriprocessors plant in Postville, Iowa on Thursday, July 31.
This guy must think that YWN is his private news source. (Picture wavy vision, signaling that the following is from my imagination). JustAJew is a retired CIA agent. He currently works for the Israeli Mossad. After he retired, then CIA head Robert Smith recieved directions from the President that JustAJew must continue to be filled in and notified of all newsworthy developments. The Natonal Programmers created a program which was called "Yeshiva World News" that would continuously be updated with items after being approved by the Vice President.
He thought his post was actually an email to the President.
Sounds like a great idea - make sure it’s a surprise visit, so that you can get the real story as to what’s going on.

Two Bochrim Struck by Lightening in Camp Horim
Under a very unfortunate story about two boys who had been struck by lightning in a summer camp, the Commentators* had a problem with the editors incorrect spelling of the word "lightning".
Although this is actually a positive thing that people knew the proper spelling and cared enough to correct it. It is another example of how the YWN readership post comments as if they are the only commentator.
Below are four posts correcting the spelling and a fifth post from someone who wasn't bothered to much.
1. Again, its lightning not lightening. Editor, please be aware of obvious headline spelling mistakes since they undermine the journalistic integrity of Yeshiva World at large.
2. How are the bachurim? And, please - the word is lightning.
3. Boruch Hashem they are being released. PLEASE!!!!!! - the word is LIGHTNING not lightening. Please change it already! It is making eyes hurt.
4. how are the boys, and its LIGHTNING NOT LIGHTENING
5. TOO ALL THOSE concurned about the weigh lightening is spelt- beg deel-knot everywon has too alwayes spel everything the weight u like it. u half to chil. so he maid a miss-steak theerfore wat.
* I will capitalize the word "commentator" from now on.
Kneidlach & Chopsticks at Beijing Olympics
From an article about the availability of kosher food at this summers Olympics in China. I think this guy missed the deadline for purchasing tickets to the games. He's just bitter.
Indeed. Anyone at the Olympics, as treif an event as you’ll ever find, surely should be kashering their soul in addition to their food. No Yid of good conscience will be at the 2008 Shmutz event in China. Comment by ujm — July 27, 2008 @ 8:40 pm

Lakewood’s Unsavory Rental Crisis Makes it to Sunday’s Asbury Park Press
This is a post by NeveAliza. It's regarding the paper's article about the rental market in Lakewood.
I wonder where the local press got the story from. YWN? I wonder how many people who are not part of our tribe read YWN? I wonder what they think of us. I wonder a lot.

She previously proposed having adult Jewish women wear uniforms, not unlike the Mormons and the Amish. After several attacks on her opinion, she defended herself by writning the following:
I’m not addressing my remarks to those yidden who are – for a lack of a better term and I hope I’m not being insulting – open minded. But davka for the Daas Torah followers, who WANT to be controlled and DON’T want to make their own decision, I simply don’t see where opposition will come from. It’s a win-win situation for them.
Anyone else still wondering like NeveAliza?
Cholov Yisroel Milk Reaches $6.40 a Gallon in New York
From an article about the high cost of cholov yisroel milk. Apparently this guy doesn't get out much.
Why not apply a good hechsher to an existing, non-cholov yisroel dairy? They seem to be able to keep the prices down! How much would a hechsher cost them already? They’d make it back quickly with increased sales.

Thousands Attend Lakewood’s Tznius Asifa
This is from an article about the annual Asifa in Lakewood Yeshiva on tznius. For this blog's first post it's pretty good. In a bad way.
I was looking at the great pics from the Tznius Asifa and my first thoughts were naturally, Mi KeAmcha Yisroel. But then as I was looking at the mass of yidden I suddenly thought of a GREAT idea that would advance and give chizuk to the mitzvah of tznius. I noticed that everybody in attendance wore the same dark suit, the same white shirt and the same black hat. It was fantastic! No one dared depart from the standard dress code. So why can’t the same idea be enforced for non-men? Have a standard yeshivahsah uniform set by the Gedolim for women! I’m not that naïve to think that all frum, Orthodox or religious women or their husbands would go along with this idea, but I’m only talking about communities like Lakewood and Lakewood-wannabes that have a population of yungerleit that run their lives in accordance with Daas Torah. If Daas Torah declares חד משמעי that such-and-such will now be the standard outfit for our women, I’m 100% zichur that their words will be followed.Maybe that’s what the women will hear Sunday evening, אי”ה.
